Tenth Disappointing Blog Post
Hi y'all! For this weeks blog post, I chose to listen to the song "Give up the Funk (Tear the Roof fff the Sucker)" by Parliament. I immediately recognized this song when we heard it in class! I think that I had heard it off of a movie or TV show or something. Wherever I heard it from, I was drawn into it from the start. This song is so funky, cool, and upbeat. It's honestly one of my favorite songs from the disco era, and it's such a boppin' song. It's easily recognizable from the beginning, and has such an iconic chorus. Although this song is pretty repetitive, I think it's such a fun dance song!
"Give up the Funk" has a really cool bass line that's repeated throughout, and some cool, classic disco synth parts. If you listen to the whole song, you get to hear the unique synth editions they add towards the middle. Around minute four, the synthesizer sounds like it's floating in. It adds a really cool effect, and sounds as though it's a waterfall or clouds floating in. That's kind of a weird way to put it, but that's what it sounds like to me.
The beginning has basic, almost "scatted" sounding lyrics, which starts the song off strong. The background music comes in, bringing in the classic vocals to this awesome disco song. These lyrics tend to repeat throughout the song, but the different verses add an entire different feel to it so I didn't mind listening to it 3 times for this blog. These main lyrics include, "You've got a real type of thing goin' down, gettin' down. There's a whole lot of rhythm goin' round." and, "We need the funk, we gotta have that funk."
If you want a good song to dance to, a good disco vibe, then "Give up the Funk (Tear the Roof fff the Sucker)" by Parliament is the song for you!! Honestly, I really love this song. It's one that makes you want to go disco skating, dance around, and have a good time. I highly recommend it! :)
I just have to say the titles of each of your blog posts are so funny, thanks for the good laugh. The song "Give up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" by Parliament has honestly always freaked me out. I don't know what it is but I personally am not a huge fan of this song. I do think that it is a funky upbeat song that definitely catches your attention.
