Sixth Disappointing Blog Post

Hi y'all!  For this weeks blog post, I decided to listen to the song  "Sh-Boom"  by The Chords (not by The Crew Cuts).  I absolutely love this song!  In my opinion, the original version of  "Sh-Boom"  was the better version.  It has a more "whole" sound, with a lot of different textures, more variety of harmonies, and an overall complex sound.  The cover version by The Crew Cuts was not as fulfilling to listen to, and seemed more empty compared to the original version from The Chords.  All of the harmonies done by the original group make such a difference, especially with the different bass parts.  The scatting in The Chords version also adds a lot to the overall impression given by the song, even if I'm not really sure what it means.

I think the lyrics of this song are really cute!  I love the words mentioned in the chorus, "Life could be a dream, If I could take you up in paradise up above, If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love, Life could be a dream sweetheart."  "Sh-Boom" is definitely a song that I want to dance to, and it makes you feel so good listening to it.  It's such a sweet song, and The Chords make it so enjoyable.  I don't think there was any part in the song that was controversial necessarily, the lyrics seem like they would be in any romantic/love song.

My favorite part of this song would honestly just have to be the whole thing.  I get in such a good mood while listening to it, and it's a fun one to sing along to as well.  The saxophone solo really adds to the completed song, but I don't think I can pick a favorite part (because it's all so good :) ).  The rhythm is up beat, so it's something the younger generation could dance to.  Along with this, "Sh-Boom" has really sweet lyrics that anyone would love to hear.

I definitely understand why this song was, and is so popular.  Overall, it's one of the greatest songs, and is for sure one of my favorites that we've talked about in class.  This is a song I want to play on my record player, dance to in the living room, and live life happily. :)

  1. This song is definitely a standard and I have heard it many times in movies before this class. The Crew Cuts ruined this song and just does not have the same up beat tempo as the original. The song is meant for a dance or two lovers as the lyrics portray the feeling of love between two people.
